Agreed, this is kindai-style Showa, not a Tancho Showa.

Thanks for the correction guys. The koi dealer told me it was a tancho which I thought was weird with the black dot on his head.

It's got nothing to with the sumi/black On the Beni on the head. The term Tancho only applies to those with the red mark on It's head and not exhibiting Beni on any part of the kois body. Even with the black on the head it would still be tancho again no other Beni on the body. This koi would fall under maruten one more common mistake is that people see a koi with a red mark on It's head and they gravitate to the word tancho this term only applies to the Gosanke varieties but I guess it's like the term Tancho Shiro Utsuri or Tancho showa the discussion will never have a satisfying end in my opinion

Agreed with you on that. That's what I thought myself. I kept coming back and relook at the picture and video. It doesn't have Beni trademark on it. (at least from what I can tell from the picture and video) As to my understanding, (correct me if I am wrong) shouldn't we be looking at getting the one that have the head and the body a little bit fatter (bigger) and less sharper mouth part.

The colors looks not bad, could use a little bit more orange thou.

Yeah, I generally look for a wide but elongated head with a "wide/big" mouth. As for the body, in this case the koi could just be underfed and is skinny, but if that's the case then the body height isn't going to translate to a strong fish in the future. Just my opinion

I would have loved to have another patch of beni near the back tail
