Help plz - New asagi has nasty spot - What to do about this ?

      Hello,

I made another post because I thought the koi injured herself on a milk crate but someone asked me to double check if she had a spot before I added the milk crates so I went back and noticed she did. She is an Asagi and that orange/red made it hard to spot. So we bought her and 6 others within a week time frame and we placed them all in a quarantine tank so we could observe and treat with general cure and erythromycin. They have been in that treatment for 4 days now. I added .3 salt today and will add .1 everyday until I get to .6 ... Also yesterday we took her out and put some tricide neo on the area for about 5 seconds then rinsed with iodine ... then rinsed with water and back into the pond. Now the tricide neo is a few years old so I don’t know if it’s still good. We kept in the freezer in an ziplock. So I’ll post the photos from the beginning (March 24 until today) so you can see the progression. The second to last one that is very red is right before we treated with the tricide neo lastnight and the last one that is more white is today. Any ideas to help would greatly be appreciated

For future reference, if you start a thread, it's good to continue on that thread rather than start another one.

If you treated it w/ Tricide (should be fine if in ziploc in freezer), give it at least a week to heal up. Generally speaking, the order would be iodine and then Tricide. I don't actually use iodine at all when I'm using Tricide direct-application method. Sounds like you are on the right track. Just keep water quality pristine and keep an eye on it for healing. Give it at least a week or so without re-treating.

So today I went up to .4 salt (added another .1) and I noticed some poop that looks like circles. Is this because someone is sick? Or is this normal... I have never seen poop that looks like cheerios . Also ... When I look at the Asagi I can see something moving when she swims ... dangling I guess... I circled it.

If there is something dangling there, it is most likely anchor worm. Anchor worm implants into the fish. Treat with Dimilin to cure anchor worm. Dimilin is very specific in that it only works against chiton type animals, like shrimp, crayfish, and the like, hard shelled insects and the like, anchor worm and fish lice.

Not shure if anyone has noticed but the Kohaku in the second picture below the Asagi seems to have something going on in the same area as the Asagi.

Is it just me or do the scales on the asagi look like they are protruding out, possibly the prelude of dropsy?

I had a koi with similar lesion, and I saved it by topic treatment with iodine.

Awesome... I hope she is better today... I’ll see how she is doing in a little and if it doesn’t look better maybe sedate her and see if there is an anchor worm on her and pull it off and treat with iodine. I’m upping the salt to .5 today as well

Her she is this morning.... The QT is being treated with general cure ... erythromycin... inch-x and salt... so I don’t know when I can treat with Dimilin. I definitely will sedated her tonight and pull them off and get some better photos.

Looks like the redness and swelling is diminishing?

I hope so ... I’ll pull the anchors off tonight. Any idea when I can treat with Dimilin since I just treated with general cure ... erythromycin... inch-x and salt?

You can see pics of anchor worm in the health section. Are you positive you have them?

As for the timing for the use of Dimilin, I am not aware of any problems associated with use of it with any other treatment, so treatment with it can be as soon as you want.

Thank you ... anything we can give for a bacterial infection? I use Seachem Stress Guard to help heal wounds

We pulled her out and looked for anything like an anchor worm but seen nothing. A scale was missing in the middle of the area. I lightly rubbed some iodine on the area then rinsed and let her wake up... then added her back to the QT. I called around a few years ago to some University of Florida aquatic veterinarians and was put in touch with a local vet that does house calls. I might have her come out and have her check the koi out. I can also learn a thing or two Im sure

She isn’t getting better ... her eyes are starting to bulge a little. Any other ideas?

I had a koi with a large infection (i tried the iodine and triside neo first but it was past that). It actually ate through the skin and i could see into the koi. It was on deaths door but i saved it with 6% salt and oxolinic baths. Once per day for 1 hour. By the 3rd bath the hole closed up by the 6th she was healed. However you need to scrape the fish and put under a microscope to see if any parasites.. You need to treat the cause or it will never heal.
