Gin rin matsukawabakke

I have been looking for a nice matsukawabakke but most of them are very black with only a little bit of white.. Its hard to find a good blend. Not to mention they tend to get darker with age.. Found this one a bought it.. So far its very nice. I hope the pattern doesn't change too much over time.

I don't know much about keeping this breed. My gh is typically low (less than 2 drops) but i keep a very high kh which keeps my ph around 8.5.
Would you consider that as being to hard for this breed? It would be a shame to turn it black.

I am a big fan of matsukawabake. Most of them would have developed tons of sumi already as tosai. I think yours is just about right.

As for me, I wouldn't mind if a matsukawabake ultimately become a hajiro....

All black koi are supposedly lucky but very hard to see in the pond. I probably could of spent a whole lot less on a hajiro as well. I'll try update you next year to see if it held its color.

The end game for most mastu is all black. Some just take longer to get there than others.
Yours is likely male. The GR on white is always stunning

I would like to know as well. The pics don't do this koi justice. That white really sparkles with the gin rin.. Im getting some new koi next week so if i get a chance to pull it I'll try to take a video.

Here are updated pics of the matsukawabakke. It did turn noticeably darker but kept a beautiful ginri white patch. That shiroji is very white and looks striking in person.. Enough so that it won prizes at 2 different koi shows.. It has seemed to stabilized at this color as its been this way for 2 seasons now.

Very pretty fish. I recently acquired a ginrin Matsukawabake tosai, but it was so black that the dealer labeled it a “Black Diamond Soragoi”. It developed some white patches in my pond, so I am sure it is a matsu - but I fear it will never be as beautiful as yours. You were wise to chose one with so much shiroji when young.

I think thats the trick. Get them with as much white as possible. The sumi will come hard later.
