Beast has some kind of Infection

I noticed a lump one side of her and some inflamed skin on the other side. I sedated and lanced the lump and clear fluid came out of it, not puss. I have a picture of the inflamed skin and a video where you can see the lump. Not sure what it is. I have her in quarantine in salt water and some Melafix ATM.

Based on the information provided, I have no clue. We generally like to start with water quality numbers as so many issues are related to the water quality. If you can, please provide numbers for ammonia, nitrite, high range pH, KH, pond temperature, and any behavioral issues, like flashing, breaching, isolation, etc. Maybe, we will see something that will help.

I have never lanced a lump, so the fluid is something that I am not familiar with. That reddened area does not particularly look like it is infection, though it could be a subsurface infection showing through. I have seen shusui with areas of more intense color which would be pattern, but except for some environmental issues I have not seen it come up later.

Yeah, I panicked and drained the pond to catch her before I thought to do tests. I'm smarter than that but I freaked out. Water and pond maintenance have been tough this year due to bad weather so it wouldn't surprise me if it's related to that. It's raining again today but I will try and do the tests and post them. She's in quarantine now, she's not happy about it but other than that she's acting normal. I fully expected puss, not clear fluid. There are no sores, lesions or anything like that, just a lump with clear fluid and that patch of red skin on the other side.

I tested the water earlier, here is the picture. There is more muck in the bottom of the ponds than usual because of bad weather so that could be part of the problem. Still no flashing, just not happy about being in quarantine. Her fins got super red yesterday after I worked on her and she did end up in the grass, they are still red today but not as bad as they were last night.

These probably are not a very good indicator of the actual parameters at the time since I drained the pond and refilled it though. She wasn't flashing then or acting abnormal, I just happened to see it on her. No signs of anything at all in her pond mate.

guessing infection. Put a buddy fish with it. Koi put into hospital tank with no partner is stressful. Please keep the parameters good.

I redid the Gill and Skin scrapes today because I kept thinking maybe I missed something in the ones I did yesterday, but they looked the same, nothing abnormal was found. Her fins are still red but much better than they were the first day. The first picture is the first day in Q, the second picture is from today.

Is your hospital tank a bathtub?

Your koi will have difficulties in a bathtub. ammonia well build up quickly with a fish that size. You should take ammonia readings morning afternoon and evening just to see what is going on.

Thank you. I've been keeping up with the water and changing it several times a day (incrementally). She just got put back in the pond today.

She still has the lump, it hasn't gotten bigger but it's not getting smaller either so I went ahead and treated with BSDT yesterday. I'm draining 25% of the water per the instructions and have extra aeration as well. If this doesn't work, I have Praziquantel and Pafurazine that I can try.

Is this a Fluke? Found it dead in the filter after the BSDT Treatment, it broke in half so that's why it's in 2 pieces.

You would not be able to see a fluke without at least 100x magnification, 400x is even better. Here's a video I took:

Thank you, it's a great video. I've been scouring Koiphen and the rest of the Internet to figure this out. I feel terrible

I was just watching a video that KDH messaged me and it's DEFINITELY a possibility! It looks the same as what I found. Will the BSDT work? Where do they come from ie birds, frogs etc? OMG!!!! This is DISGUSTING and I'm horrified!!!!!! I have Prazi and Parfurazine, will either of those work?

All though it resembles the leach on the video. It is unusual that a koi well get leeches. Most leeches in ponds are not fish specific. I would bowl your koi and check them out closely. Top to bottom. If you have a koi acting in a different behavioral pattern. Than check the gills as leeches like that area.

If you don't see any. I wouldn't worry about it.

You could put a piece of meat or maybe liver in the area you think they might be in. Might have to cover so fish leave it alone but enough room for possible leaches to get to it. I read it only takes about an hour or less for leeches to find it.

Happy update!! The lump is significantly smaller! I put her and Pandemica in the pond with the better filtration system and culled all but one of the boys and put the remaining boy in the other pond with my Bass. Since then, the lump has shrunk down to barely noticeable. I had treated with BSDT and Praziquantel before I culled and switched so whatever I did ended up working. I'm so relieved!!!!!
