      Filter pit cover

      Dear koi friend,

I am in the process of making a cover for my filter pit.
The dimensions of the opening are 170 cm wide and 435 cm long.
The plan is to open the cover manually with the help of a gas shock absorber.
The frame would be made of galvanized profiles to which i would attach WPC decking.
How to perform waterproof cover ? I am also thinking of splitting the lid into two independent sections. How do I make the watertight joint of these two sections? The goal is also to be able to walk on the cover when it is closed, how much distance can I make between the profiles in the substructure without being able to bear the weight? Whether the entire cover needs to be tilted in order to be able to drain rainwater ?
Please your opinions and advice or some picture of who performed something similar.
      Thanks!!!!

Welcome and thanks for joining Koiphen!

Here's mine that I built about 15 years ago. It uses 2 - 12v electric motorized lifts to raise the deck:

Just some advice if going the 12v actuator route...
My first set failed after a couple years and so I bought another pair and drilled a small hole in the motor
housing to let water drain out. The first one failed because the housing filled with water and rusted.
The second set lasted over 10 years but honestly aren't built to be used outdoors and finally failed again.
The price of them (last time I looked) is now almost $300 a piece and so I've decided to either build a roof over
the pit or figure some other way to keep it dry. Even though the deck was built to walk on and be used
normally, it sits away from the pond a bit and was almost never used. Just fwiw...
