      STL Winter Pics

Believe STL last day above freezing was on February 5th and first day above freezing is suppose to tomorrow. The coolest I believe was -3. I did not expect to have these temperatures for this period of time especially during my first year of the new pond.

I have two 1250watt heaters, 300watt aquarium heater, and air bubblers running to keep open the S&G filters and pond. Last night the cetus sieves finally thawed out enough to able to adjust to pond level and regulate water flow. The 55gal MB had some issues early on and kick off some k1 until I adjust the air. The shower froze in some sections which create a trough and was dipping water outside the container. The cetus sieve from the skimmer was a 3/4" crack occur on the lower level two nights ago and was dipping water out. Luckily I found it and was able to fix it will a hair dyer and 3M rafting patch. I think next season I will create a bypass for the shower. I dont think it is necessary to have it running. Also the aerator diffuser from the 4" BD stopped. I am guessing water found it's way into the line and hopefully I can blow it out when the temperature is higher.

A leopard frog has survived through these temperatures, just amazing.

I'm so sorry for the damage. I think many here have experienced brutally low temps that they're
not used to. Hopefully everything can be repaired when things thaw. I know one year I had a tree
come down and smash a s/g filter that sat at the top of the waterfall. Mother nature can be relentless
and each winter seems like a learning experience.

Oh man, I hate to see this. Hopefully it's a once a decade or less event. Good luck with repairs and let us know how it goes.
