      Retro Fit Pond Window?

      Hello Everyone!

Hope everyone is happy and healthy! I want to retrofit a pond window into the pond I built this year. Like many pond DIY people. I have a handful of things I would have done differently after the fact and this is #1 on the list. I already have a idea for the frame structure, I really just need to know what type of glass to use and what the thickness of the glass should be? I have a metal fabricator I know that can build a frame to the size of the glass window once I can source the glass. I was trying to find a aquarium glass calculator online but wasn't having a easy time finding something straight forward. The size of the actual windows will be 60 inches by 16 inches. Below is a photo so you get a idea of the pond and size of the window? Also the window is going to be infinity style with no frame on the top (Example Picture Below) If anyone has experience it would be much appreciated!

I installed a window in my gunite pond using bent up 316 x 2 mm stainless steel.

45 degree angle joints on each corner of the frame, professionally tig welded, ground and polished where visible.

I used 20 mm thick glass, jet cut to size, from the old Durban Aquarium when it moved to the redeveloped Point waterfront area +- 25 years ago.

I cut a +- 6 mm wide groove into the concrete about ( whatever you think will gives you the safest anchor around the size opening you have allowed for)

This cut has to be exactly square and accurate.

      I then had a s/steel frame made.

The first dimension is how deep you want the piece of steel to go into the slot? dimension +-20 mm deep frame width

The next dimension is how far is the slot from the opening you have allowed for? dimension +- 75 mm wide frame width

The next dimension is how deep in the opening from the water to the glass front do you want your glass to be? dimension +-75mm deep into the wall cavity

The glass is pushed against this dimension by the force of the water and the sealant waterproofs the glass from leaking out the front (dry side of the frame.

      dimension +-25 mm frame width

Sealant deep into in the groove.

Sealant across the width from the slot to the hole opening 75mm

Sealant on the metal angle the glass is bonded to. +-25 mm

Frame anchors. Through the front frame next to the groove maybe 20 mm from the slot with lots of sealant.

Once the pond is filled the weight of water holds the glass and frame in place.

To hold the frame and glass in position,a couple of frames gentle pressing across the from the far wall to support in place till dry.

I think I used Marine Silicone. But I am sure you could look into something just as suitable and fish safe.
