      Protecting auto feeder from raccoons

This was my first year with an auto feeder. It went great over the summer but in mid-fall a raccoon discovered the feeder and after a few nights of trying to outsmart him it became clear that he would win this round, and I just pulled the feeder inside until the spring since feeding was winding down anyway. However, I’d like to get ahead of this next year with a plan. I have the fish mate feeder. I was thinking about building some kind of hut/house around it. Whatever the solution is, it has to be aesthetically pleasing. I would like to see pictures and descriptions of what others are doing with regard to the automatic feeders on their ponds. Thanks!

Bumping this up for more options... The bugger did not forget over winter and has now dumped several months of expensive food into the pond for the second time, destroying my water quality. I spent all weekend engineering a way to keep him out and he outsmarts me every time. I know autofeeders are commonly used. What is everyone else doing?

It seems like you already have a solution thou, just need a designs that will fit nicely and also looks nice with the Koi Pond of course. You can also make it a metal container like inside (so that the racoon cannot chewed into it), because I am pretty sure that it will try.

      When I had a P7000 I mounted it to a 2" x 16" x 16" concrete paver to keep it from being
knocked over, but I'm not sure they couldn't tear off the top. I went to the Koi Cafe that I
could hang and haven't had a problem.

Thanks Steve. The problem I'm currently having with the FishMate is they are able to reach into the outlet chute and clear all the food out of there. Any effort to make that difficult and they simply tear off the outlet chute which dumps the whole hopper out. Is the Koi Cafe dispensing mechanism safe from prying hands?

The fact that it's over the water is a challenge in itself, but it also would be very difficult
even if it was on land. There are metal plates that leave a slot about the depth of a large pellet. Plus
it's sharp metal edges. It vibrates (which is a bit noisy and can scare the crap out of a
unsuspecting person ) to shake the food out the slot.

This is the underside of the feeder. The slot runs the length of that bottom tray:

I believe it's 1.50" electrical pipe fits over 1.25" PVC pipe, but to make sure my numbers are correct go to any hardware store close to you to verify my numbers. Build your upside down L shape feeder post high enough so the animals can jump on it and it also make's a perfect swivel so you can hang your feeder over the water and when it's time to refill you just swing your feeder in your direction fill and swing it back over the water
