Sieve prefilter in front of pressure filter?

      Hello friends:

I wonder if anyone has this set-up: A sieve prefilter in front of a pressure filter?

I love my pressure filters and I also want to get sieve prefilters to remove koi poop. Since the water has to be pressed into the pressure filter I must raise the sieve filter so that there will be enough gravitational force to press the water though the pressure filter. I wonder how much higher the sieve must be?

      Thanks for your thoughts!

Could you perhaps put the sieve as a skimmer and then plumb from that to the pump so that the pressure filter still receives full flow

      On my pond system:
      - skimmer (coarse filtration) feeds pump that pushes through bead filter (finer filtration and bio-conversion) and back to pond.
      - two bottom drain circuits that each feed a sieve (filtration) to pump to UV to shower (aeration and bio-conversion).

My sieve is gravity fed by 2 BD's which feeds the pump to a bead filter then to 5 tpr's.
The sieve is not raised but is at pond level like a SC would be. Maybe I'm misunderstanding
      something?

I have a HUGE 1500g settling chamber before my pressure filters. It's called my whole pond!! Works like a dream. I've never had to clean/flush these filters in Years!!! Water has always been crystal clear and koi are healthy... It's one of those...I know... just wait.

      Hello KoiRun:

      Thanks again!

It was you who has inspired me to have faith in my pressure filters (love their easily being moved around) and, to have clear water without UV-light on all the time!

Right now I am much into the anoxic chamber stuff to remove nitrate, and I start to realize that the pressure filter can be very good (at least quite good) anorix chamber, as it is enclosed so it is naturally less O2-rich, especially if I reduce the flow rate. I wonder if you have considered this?

Of course, that requires removal of fish poop. For the out-door pond I am planning to do as you are doing (I have 2 ponds, one can be used as settling chamber I guess), but for the in-door wintering tank I must have a sieve, as I have no space to have a settling tank.

Saw this koiphen thread http://https://www.koiphen.com/forums/showthread.php?145590-Zakki-Sieve-in-Combination-with-a-Bead-Filter, is this what you are talking about?

I have a zakki sieve and love it. It does not have to be below or at pond level, it can be above pond level.

      Thanks!

That is a complicated system! If I tried to make a such system by myself it would leak at least 10 places, and at the end I would throw the whole thing in the garbage can!
