      Hi,
Could someone please let me know what type of Koi this male is(Pic 1 & Pic 2)? He has just bred with my Hi Utsuri Female. Also please let me know what you think of my Ginrin Matsuba (Pic 3) and Hi Utsuri male (Pic 4). I apologise for the poor photos, I am a novice

I'm no expert, but pretty sure it's from the Kawarigoi class, and would be called a Beni Kikokuryu. Without the red, it would be just a Kikokuryu.

I think the Matsuba has great reticulation! But I don't see ginrin (sparkle/shiny scales) in it. Maybe just the pic, or my eyes...lol

The Utsuri has the usual peppering..., but I'd be happy with it in my pond!!

Edit; Oooops! Kikokuryu are scaless Doitsu! Soooo,,,not sure what yours is with full scales like that. Now I'm curious.....

I think the first one is goshiki.

I agree with you on the other 2.

Edit; I don't think it's a Goshiki, with the metalic coloring it has. All the many new look'n koi these dayzz....! Get'n confusing!!!

Maybe the first is a Kogane Ochiba. Pretty sure that's it. Like yours, they're fully reticulated scaled, metallic with Ki or Hi coloring also.

Rad fish!!! Now I want one!!!!

Thank you all for the replies, I think this koi might be Goshiki after looking at other photos online. I think the metallic look maybe my poor photography skills as in the pond he looks quite white. I will try and get better at making my photos consistant sizes and taken at the same distance. This was my first post but I'm sure to post more soon. I am in Australia and its sprinkg time and I have about 1,000 fry that are about a week old so I maybe seeking even more advice!! Thanks again.

Metallic is referring to the reflective look, not the grey coloring. I know, it's a weird wording.....Another way to put it, might be, the white (Shiroji) appears reflective or bright platnium, kinda. Correct? Not at all like the white on say a Sanke for example. Goshiki don't have this reflective, metalic coloring. IMHO anyway. Google pics of the rare Kogane Ochiba, you'll see what I mean, I think.

Your Matsuba is also considered 'metalic'. Compare how the Hi (red) looks on your Hi Utsuri (non-metalic), vs your first pictured koi's Hi. See what I mean by 'reflective' or metalic?

      Welcome to the site, BTW!!
