      Keeping koi from breeding

Hi! I am assuming some people on here don't want their koi to breed as it could put stress on very expensive females. What are some of the techniques people use to keep koi from breeding?

Someone who knows a lot about koi mentioned not feeding large amounts of food till later in the summer. Do some of you do this and if so what is the formula?

      Thanks

Not having any plants or leaves for koi to attach eggs to can be pretty effective, but not perfect. I've kept mine from spawning in the main pond for 12 years this way.

One exception: We heard them splashing one night about 8 years ago. I went out and removed the female they were chasing, which stopped the party. The female then laid her eggs in a separate tub over several hours. I then put her in a 0.30% salt bath for 3 hours, and returned her to the pond without further incident.

Stop feeding New Years Day and do not start feeding again until mid to late March depending on water temp and weather forecast. Remember, I am in Atlanta. So you may need to stop feeding earlier and start feeding later.

I stop feeding from November and start up lightly the end of May.
