      $50 Little Gin Rin Showa

Got bored this fall so I went to Koi Enterprise in West Sacramento to pick up a small little koi for fun. Wasn't going to spend another few hundreds to buy left over tosai. Going to control myself until the next growth season.

Forgot to ask if it's tosai or ake nisai? I can't imagine I will be feeding it much given the temperature these days. Anyway, the breeder is Suda. I believe it is classified as kage? I guess I will see how the sumi will develop. I am hoping the beni will hold but I figured it's still a young koi...always a gamble.

I wonder the same thing! I figured I can’t lose, it’s only $50, super messy so it’s fun to watch. And also, either I will end up with a gin rin Showa, kage gin rin Showa, gin rin SU or kage gin rin SU

Is it a showa or a sanke?

Showa normally have black arm pits or motogoro.

Sanke have black stripes in the pectoral fins or tejima.

Is that a sumi head pattern or a solid ????

It’s for sure a Showa. Sanke rarely would have that many black stripes in the pec fins and kage / Utsuri style sumi. What are on the pec fins here are developing motogoro.

Sanke usually don't have sumi on the head but it's not unheard of either:

      Nice sanke that one!

To me personally I find it much more reliable to look at the sumi pattern / type and pectoral fins. Like Jose said, some cross the dictionary definitions.

Btw Jose, you should check out Koi Enterprise, they have tons of new and semi nice koi for the price.
