How do you guys dechlorinate tap water?

Basically just what the title says. How do you guys do it for your koi ponds? I know this sounds like a really stupid question but I have just always been confused about this, are you supposed to fill the pond up with tap water when doing water changes and then add the dechlorinator, or do you have to find some sort of container to put tap water in, dechlorinate it in there, and then dump it into your pond?

I was taught to add the declor to a 5gal bucket (enough to cover the amout of water change your doing not necessarily the full volume of your pond) mix it then pour it into the pond and then add the new fresh water.

You are going to get a thousand different answers on this question, but I will give you what I do.
I use Seachem Safe powder for my dechlor.
I usually have a decent guess at the amount of water I will be adding to the pond
I turn on the hose, then add a quarter to a half of the amount of dechlor that I need in the area that the water is entering the pond.
I add a 1/4 to half more dechlor 30 minutes to an hour later
If I am adding a lot of water I keep adding every hour

Been ponding for a while, with lots of successes, and lots of failures.

I've just placed an inline filter to remove the chlorine as I do my water change, I replace the cartridge about every 6 months.

Go to the Sodium Thiosulphate calculator at the top of the page and work from there, the required amount of chemical to the amount of water you are adding to your pond.

I broadcast the clear chrystals, by the handful over the pond surface to allow all over immediate coverage.

      I belive you cannot overdose.

Thiosulfate provides sulfur, an essential nutrient, for bacteria growing under anaerobic conditions.
