DIY Foam Fractionator for Koi Pond

      Hi there,

I'm thinking about building a DIY foam fractionator for our koi pond. I've read several of the relevant forums here and elsewhere, and have come up with 2 ideas. I would appreciate any comments/advice I could get. Both foam fractionators are dual stage, with the first stage purely for foam fractionating and the second stage doubles as trickle tower as well.

      IDEA 1

I'll pump water in at Point 1 (approx 3000 Gph). Point 2 allows me to reduce the flow a bit if required. I have a 2 inch venturi at point 3. Hopefully this aggetated the water enough to push foam up to Point 4 and 5. Water needs to flow down, through the 4 inch bends and to the top of the trickle tower. At this point the water falls through about 6 feet of bioballs. Water exits at 8. Foam exits at 9. Points 6 and 7 are drainage points for maintenance. Points 4, 5, 10 and 11 are points where I will inject clean water under pressure to flush the system.

      IDEA 2

I like this one better as I'm not dropping water over the foam in the second stage. Also, I can get a bit more height on the trickle tower (inside my pump room)

Flow is very similar to that described for Idea No 1 above. I'm thinking of a 6 inch tower. Also, considering the need for the valve at Point 8, to control the water level in the second part of the system.

Any insights / comments / ideas would be highly appreciated.

      Wouldn't this be easier?

This is basically the second half of the plan
