      2020 Sanke-Sanke fry

Here's a video (sorry for the quality) of the fry that resulted from a Sanke cross with Sanke. There's a variety of types that resulted, but the bulk are Sanke, Shiro Bekko, soild orange, and a few Kohaku.

Thank you! Eggs were laid on May 5th. It was cooler than normal, so it took roughly 5 days for them to hatch. I have three other spawns that I may post later.

Yes, please do. These look great, strong patterns, good shape. I'd like to see photos of the parents to see what they came from.

As promised, here's the end of season pull of the Sanke fry. Not great pictures, but the best we could do. I've broken them out into seven groups. There were a total of 104 fry pulled from the tank.

I'd very much appreciate your input on the potential (if any). Please do not hold back, I really want an honest assessment. I suspect that the number of "keepers" is very low. This was the first time I paired these two Sanke, so it was a bit of an experiment. Thanks in advance.

Nice job, with Sanke you will find that much of the sumi they exhibit will recede giving you a better understanding of baby sumi. I am surprised that on your better ones they aren't showing more beni but it's early in the game some could develop, nice job so far good samples to learn from give them a little more time you will be surprised of the changes that will take place.

Thanks Orlando. Yes, the beni really seems lacking. The male has very strong beni, so I was expecting to see more. Perhaps it is just a matter of time, but I'm not too confident that good beni will show itself.

Very nice group Sean. I spawned some sanke once but it was many years back, before had much idea what I was doing. So my evaluation does not count for much, but several of the sanke look good to me. I'm also interested in about 3 of the becko that have plenty of sumi but not a whole lot.

An aka becko could be nice also, but at least at this stage those have too much sumi. I hope it will recede some like Orlando mentioned.

Nice job. I fully appreciate the amount of effort you are putting in.
Now all you need is a big mud pond. LOL

Pulled a good number of Sanke this past weekend. In general, I'm happy how these continue to develop. Here are some pics of my favorites. Feedback welcomed!!

I really like the base (white) it's very bright. That's very important on a white base koi and now you can see how much the sumi changed and it's thick and glossy. Your choices are very nice but I think the sleeper is the tancho Sanke in my opinion I have a soft heart for tategoi

Great work on these Sean! I especially like the alternating pattern on that second one.

Thanks for the input Orlando!! Yes, I've been watching that tancho closely. At first it was a solid red spot, but then sumi started to show up. I was initially concerned that the sumi would take away from the look, but as it continues to develop I like it better and better.

Thanks Matt! Yes, the second one is my son's favorite. I like the third one too - it looks more red than the picture above.

This pair (plus an additional Showa male) has spawned already this season, so I'll start a new thread on their progress.
