If you want goldfish, this is a decent source

This Spring I lost 6 goldfish to our resident Heron. That put me down from 22 fish to 16, so I started looking for a good source for more fish. I came across Toledo Goldfish on Amazon and looked them up. It's a huge operation out in Missouri. I think they are the retail/mail order division of Ozark Fisheries (next door), which wholesales across the country.

Here is a picture of their ponds from their website http://toledogoldfish.com . Shipping cost is included in their prices. A dozen fish were going to cost me $70, but the 2 dozen price was only $80. I couldn't resist the 2 dozen. I got 12 sarasa comets and 12 shubunkins. They were supposed to be 4-5 inches, but they looked more like 3-5 inches to me. After a 10% discount on my first order, it came to $3 per fish. My local garden pond store charges $7 each for the same types in the 3-5 inch size.

They were shipped by overnight FedEX and were double bagged in a Styrofoam cooler with an ice pack. They shipped a few extras and all 27 fish arrived alive. I lost one due to my failure to cover the drain in my QT and he got sucked in. Overall I'm very happy with the fish I got and would recommend Toledo as a good source for pond quality fish.

Thanks Nancy! I have been fascinated by this company. They have been raising goldfish and koi for the pet trade since the 1920s. They have hundreds of mud ponds in Missouri and Indiana. I have spent a good bit of time watching youtube videos of Japanese mud ponds and was surprised to see such a big operation right here in the US...and for so long.

20% off all their goldfish, koi, tadpoles, crayfish, minnows, snails. etc

I got this ad yesterday. I had sent them a picture of their fish in my pond and they used it! I was pretty surprised. Anyway, it's a good company that's been around for almost 100 years, so give them a look....https://toledogoldfish.com/

Of course they would want to use a pic of your beautiful pond. Thank you for sharing the coupon.

I live 10 minutes from Blue Ridge Fish Hatchery. They are a huge business and do not sell retail. But the area pet stores get their koi & goldfish from them. They deliver to the stores here every Tuesday. If you get there early you can pick out fish before they are put into the stores water. Plus one of their buyers has online auctions and delivery. You can buy one fish or buy in groups of fish. I can buy fish but even though I live 10 minutes from the fish, I still have to have it shipped to me. I get the fish next day for only $15.00.

Thanks Nancy, sounds like you've got it made for fish. I enjoyed looking around Blue Ridge's site.

You are welcome. They have all grades of Koi & Goldfish. They all have been strong, healthy fish for me.
