      Please sex 2 koi

      Koi 1:

I am not sure about its ID. I call it kigoi. Dirty head and uneven color on its scale, but I guess it has good tail tube? The only one I have that has the tail tube of a dolphin.

      Koi 2:

I love its scale. It seems to have metallic, so it must be orenji ogon.

I typically go more by the body shape. So I am far from an expert on the vents. But I think I recall that the sideways slit is female. If that is correct, the first koi is female. This matches the fact that her body narrows somewhat quickly about 2/3 of the way toward the tail from the head. The vent on the second koi seems a little inconclusive to me. Perhaps someone else can tell. Hard to assess the shape with it turning and not seeing the profile angle, but it is pretty chunky, which means probably female.

Matt, I think the first one is a male and on the second one the picture make's it hard to get a good look at the koi but the vent also says male to me, Female vents (outie) male vents (ene). The slits to me help but in older koi

First one looks female. Second male. Could be wrong- I’m no expert.

Rainblood seems to be right, as those two easily broke the chase when other males try to chase them.

I wonder if you could say whether I have sexed these 3 koi correctly: The first one bekko is female, the ginrin kigoi and the sanke are male:

You got these three correct but, I think am about to start a discussion here; what your calling a bekko I believe it's a shiro Utsuri, we can leave the quality of the sumi for a later discussion

      Thanks!

I am not very sure whether it is shiro utsuri or bekko. I call it bekko as the front part of its head is white. I have the impression that shiro utsuri has heavy sumi on its head. Another reason is the sumi on its breast fins: I guess that sumi there is condensed for utsuri and striped for bekko.
