      Black spots - any thoughts?

I had two of my fish die with these black spots -and now - a friend with a pond across town from mine has a fish that has the same. My friend's fish is still alive so if anyone has treatment options, thank you for sharing.

The black spots appear to be normal coloration.

Can you please provide testing numbers for your water?

These deaths were last week - and all of you were helping me consider parasite issues. At the time, water was good though I was increasing the hardness/baking soda additions.

I can't tell you what my friend's is. He described that the fish was lazy - at the top of the water - separated from the his other fish.

On my fish with black spots, it didn't look normal as only a few scales were this color and see the mouth of the fish has black around it.

Please continue any questions you have on the thread that you already have going. It causes a lot of confusion and people have to repeat a lot and ask the same questions when you start a new thread. I think it's a much better way to get your questions answered.

Assuming the black spots just showed up on two different fish, and assuming they are in the same pond, the spots could be fish lice, though they are generally a dark green and often seen moving from site to site. If it is fish lice, you should be able to remove them manually very easily. Also, if it is fish lice, you need to treat with dimilin.

Those look like natural colour to me, as well. Goldfish often add black markings as the water temps warm.
