      My $35 asagi

I got this asagi when I first started in my koi hobby from Andrew's international

What I noticed that this is a second time that its head swelled up.and went away leaving either a scar which will clear up in the winter or sumi? See for yourself.. it did look like blisters and they popped and healed. Pretty gross

      No more clear clean head.

Besides the head I'm noticing tiny specks around the scales.
What are your water parameters reading?

This is before my seashcme safe application

I've always had issues with this asagi and my GR benegoi also $35 which has carp pox. I should have listened to my friends and rehome them a long time ago.

What are those specks a sign of? What would cause those to appear?

I think it might be fujurin has speckles or holes... Fukurin is the way the flesh between the koi scales form a net pattern???

If I’m looking at your tests right you have high nitrate. Are these tests after 5 min?

High nitrates mess with the whites of an Asagi and shusui and if I’m not mistaken cause brown blood disease

Yes 0 is always next but heres what I found
What is a safe nitrate level for koi and goldfish?
The ideal range for nitrate is 20-60 ppm, parts per million. If your pond reaches 80 ppm you should begin a regiment of partial water changes to reduce nitrates to a safe level. Nitrate becomes extremely toxic above 120 ppm.

That nitrate shows higher on the photo but the reading is under 40ppm

The shiroji on my showa, kohaku are all fine. Weird???

Nitrate even at 40 begins to cause white turn pink and sumi or shimmies I’ve found. Even if not toxic it begins to affect them at lower levels. Mud ponds get no nitrate because no filtration? Only freshwater changes from snowfall. Keeps white white.

All my kohaku have shimmies and my nitrate is <5. Water changes are done every 5 hours 24/7 on a timer.
      Solution? I quit buying kohaku.

I don't think your Asagi has any Fukurin and those black specks have nothing to do with Fukurin. I don't know what they are but might be from hardness in the water. Fukurin is the thick skin that develops around the scales.

Looks like the black spots have cleared up as well? Almost looks like some kind of fungus the way it developed

It's still there but less visible weird. The blisters shows up then pops then slowly clears away. It's not bad for $35. Now my gr benegoi on the other hand I think it's take awhile for the carp pox to go away..

Just did some reading. Some studies have linked
High nitrates to hith disease. Hole in the head looks similar to that and perhaps you’ve just reversed it with water changes and optimal parameters?

Wow update on my $35 asagi seems the head almost completely cleared up. Been switched to cheap catfish food with spirulina algae...

Haven't official measured but looks maybe 19"-20" not bad for $35 smackaroos
