Little mini heat wave here in Northern CA, and that means the first fruit have been set on my tomatoes.

Don't care for much else that goes along with heat waves.

What variety of tomatoes are those? They have patterns like Cherokee purples.

It's a modern variety called "vintage wine"... here's a stock photo of some ripe ones from totally tomatoes. It's a good producer, and you can tell when it is at peak ripeness because the green stripes turn yellow. It has a thick skin and resists splitting.

On another plant, definitely starting to show a ting of color, it'll be ripe when the green stripes turn yellow....

and the one next to it doesn't look too far behind.
I'll be canning before the end of the month.

my garden is a bit behind the central valley, pickle cucumbers are just starting to set fruit, as are the watermelons (never had any luck with them here.)

      Wow, those look terrific!

Washington is having one of the coldest, wet summers I can remember. Between the weather and the rabbits I'll be lucky
      if I harvest anything.

but you're due for your 6-8 weeks of actual sunshine (as opposed to liquid sunshine) any day now...
