Why you need a pond now! :)

Here are some great reasons for having a pond during these pandemic times as spring arrives.
!) You can't get the covid-19 virus from your pond.
      2) You can enjoy it's beauty and sense of normality as the world around you is going crazy.
      3) You see how nature renews itself and rebirths to help give hope.
      4) You can take out your frustration as you dig in the soil to plant a new plant.
      5) You can use the old pots or pails that you have laying around as planters, and by doing that you are cleaning up your clutter.
      6) Working in mud gives you an aesthetic peace. Throwing it on someone also might help but I don't recommend it.
      7) Watching your fish swim around lazily is relaxing.
      8) Feeding your fish helps fill your need to be needed. They also don't talk back.
      9) You can get on your computer and discuss your discoveries, joys, questions and information with others and still have social distance. Koiphen is a great place for that!
      10) You can teach your children about nature, biology, botany, chemistry, and other things pertaining to science as you home school your children or grandchildren, and therefore getting them out of the house, and giving them something to do.

Okay, what are your suggestions to extend this thread?

      11) You can take the time to redecorate, and do that keeps your creative juices flowing instead of stagnating.
      12) It gives you a reason to get out of the house, after all, you can only watch so much of Hallmark movies, or true murder shows.
      13) It keeps you active so that your muscles do not diminish, no matter how big they were.
      14) It gives you a reason to go on the computer, much as you used to do with catalogs, and look for a new fish, a new plant, or just to look.
      15) You can read answers to questions have posted about ideas and problems people have had with heir ponds, and help find remedies, both right and wrong.

      26) You have tubers on your table, on your countertops, in your sink, on your chairs, on your bed..... You literally can't move in your house without knocking last years harvest over ("PLEASE HALP!"... twitches on the floor).

Mine are still in the shed, but they are everywhere. The hardy lilies are putting up new floating pads.

      27) You have things to do to overcome boredom, like check tropical tubers for sprouts, or to see if they float (if they float most likely they are dead) or if they are mushy (dead).
      28) You can call friends or text them or email them to see if they would like any of your "extras."
      29) You can post on KPs trade forum if you are looking for a particular plant, or offer your "extras" for trade.
      30) If you are not a member of Koiphen you can sign up and get the advantages of being a member.

      31) Around this time of the year you can get excited as you start seeing your plants start popping their heads out of the mud, and lily plants putting their pads on the top of the water.
      32) You can buy cheap plants from the box stores at half the price as from growers and guess as to which half of the plants will survive.
      33) You can decide to wait a while until the plants go on sale and get 75% off because they are dried up, about dead, and you can spend hours pleading with them to survive.
      34) You can start planning on your next pond with its fancier design, and of course, bigger!
      35) Those little koi you bought last spring amaze you as you see how much bigger they are this spring.
      36) Where did all of those little koi come from?

      37) In the spring, when the temperatures are mild, you can open the windows and hear the sound of the waterfall to relax you as you fall asleep.
      38) You do not need to mow a pond!
      39) Pond owners are among the best people there are!
      40) With a pond you always will find new challenges, new discoveries, and new dreams.

      41) Your pond will draw frogs to it, and you can enjoy the sounds of their calling out at night.
      42) You may find dragonflies surrounding your pond, eating mosquitoes and displaying their beauty. How many varieties can you find?
      43) Occasionally a turtle will show up, or maybe a salamander to add to your "water jungle."
      44) Ponds can reflect the character of the owner as to being ornate or simple, busy or serine.
      45) You will find lots of ideas on Koiphen as to decorations, shapes, etc.

      46) On a beautiful day like today, you can go out and divide the lotuses, enjoying the outdoors, and the warmth of the sun!
      47) Your spirits will be lifted as you can take your time "playing in the mud," reminding you of your childhood.
      48) I found a small salamander in one of the pots today and the young man helping with me was excited to see it. Sharing is caring!
      49) The young man was also excited telling me about finding a frog in a pot. Isn't nature wonderful?
      50) The lotuses tubs are on top of a hill, about half way up, and as we worked we enjoyed the wooded surroundings. "Social distancing!"

      51) You learn a lot from having a pond. As we finished dividing the lotuses today, my helper brought me a salamander he had found that was a different variety from the one we found yesterday. He asked questions about them, and when he found a tub that had several salamanders in a tub, he asked even more questions.
      52) You can overcome some fears when you own a pond. You may have been reluctant about putting your hands into plant pots when you can't see what is in them but after a while, (okay, so maybe a few years) You put your hand in without worrying about a frog or a bug being in it.
      53) You will find tadpoles in your pond because "if you plant it, they will come." Not the tadpoles, but they are the result of the frogs coming to your pond.
      54) You may also learn about those yucky bugs that are found in your pond. Dragonfly larvae, China Marker worms, and aphids will become a frequently used part of your vocabulary.
      55) You need a pond, a small one, because every few years you will want to make it bigger and bigger, until you realize you have no more grass or yard, but a pond where once you had a yard.

      56) i have realized that when I am working in the ponds my thoughts are on it and off the things going on in the world with the covid-19 virus.
      57) Having a pond to work in, play in or just to sit beside brings a relaxation that not many other places can bring.
      58) There are no lines to stand in, no traffic to fight, no waiting on the phone for a human to speak to when out by the pond. Well, you may be on hold on the phone, but what better place to do it than while at the pond, listen to the waterfall rather than announcements from a canned tape?
      59) You may find out there is a pond club in your area. When not quarantined, you will enjoy meeting others to talk about your ponds, making new friends, and going to see their ponds.
      60) You will realize how many different kinds of ponds there are, and that no two ponds are identical, and every one has its unique beauty.

15 years and never a chemical. Tilapia is one of the few fish that can handle straight ocean water or pure fresh water. Bull shark and tarpon are another. If the tilapia get silly, lay in the salt bath for a while.A couple-3 days. If you live near the ocean and have a salt environment and the tilapia get silly ? Crank the well and make them live in fresh water a few days. Cool eh ?

I learned that by clicking bells and flashing lights many years ago from the worlds foremost fish expUrt. I wonder what happened to those 150 websites ? HMMMMM
