Well the female has to be gravid then I prep the tank I will be using with fresh tap water then I place the green spawning mops that I make in the tank some what towards early evening I place the female in the tank usually and preferably on a full moon night once she settles I introduce the males and if it's a little warm I would probably place a couple of bags of ice just to cool the water down a few degrees I also place a light over the tank and sit back and watch. The original trio I started this thread with started doing their dance around 9pm or so but I think what happened there was I had added a younger male and he somehow messed things up that night. Now I'll go back to the green mops; about four days after the eggs hatch they start looking for food and even thou I supplement with green water they fry start gravitating towards the mops and there they can start munching on the green material growing on the mops it's kinda like being ready for them the fry ahead of time I believe this helps them get on powder food sooner.

Well the Ochiba pair I put together last night didn't do their deed I know the female is ready maybe the male didn't like 74* water, I've changed all the water in the tank and will re-introduce the female with a different male. First picture is the pair from last night and the second picture is the male all be using tonight.Name: 20200407_182905.jpg

The Doitsu would be paired with two of my Shiro Utsuri males or the Ochiba would be paired with two male Ochiba one is a pretty decent ginrin.

There's is more to this part of the hobby than you can see when you do it this way if you want to have a decent crop; water changes have to be very carefully monitored during these early stages, having the filters ready and matured so they start working when you need them and this is the part when am on pins and needles for 24hrs. You reach the point where the tobies start to take out some of the fry and you have plenty of warning you start seeing fry with missing tails the larger ones aren't dumb they will take out the motor on a fry so it's an easier meal down the road. And that's what leads to the first harvest for me witch took place yesterday and following comes a worrisome time for me because the fresh water has to be perfect for these 1 month old koi if you miss anything well let's not go there. I spent some of the time today working on some shade for these guys, don't worry about the white pine 1x2 on the right it will soon be replaced by a 2x2 pt. This my relief moment 24hrs after a full 100% water change.

Well they get into what I call a boring stage, tobies that get separated it's like they don't exist for example I just got a decent glimpse tonight I guess because I hit them with a light. I did separate the fry with sumi and the white ones and of those there will be a few Kohaku in that batch, here's tonight there just being baby koi eating everything that fall in the water.Name: 20200419_204041.jpg

How do you know when your koi are ready to spawn orlando? 2 days ago I saw a few of my koi chase my yamabuki around the pond. I have a feeling my yamabuki is a female her belly is big compared to my other koi.

When the water is good and temperatures are correct the males will start chasing the females. I think the closer we get to the full moon the more active they will get if you have the space make a couple of mops and throw them in the pond this way you can collect the mops and place them in a tank all the eggs will need is areation you don't even have to add declor to the water because by the time the eggs hatch it will have dissipated. How old are the koi?
