I've never shared this part of the process and not sure why but you're seeing some of my battles raising fry we been pretty dry so I guess my backyard is an oasis for these frogs.

Tonight is a pink full moon am on the fence that shiro is loaded and am concerned to let her go into the warmer months being that full of eggs I have about 2hrs to make a decision here...

I keep removing tadpoles from the Ochiba/Kohaku spawn and they are growing it's a little difficult to see them around the sponge filter but they are there. With the Shiros my plans are too remove the spawning media to another tank and dump all the eggs in the spawning tank sanitized and return the media to the spawning tank with water from the fry pool with one of the sponge filters from the other tank. That spawn it's fairly easy to cull since one only keeps the black fry.

Cleaned the spawning tank the best I could and removed about 2lbs of loose eggs I guess the possums are going to have a feast tonight and refilling the tank with fresh water and will add the spawning media to the tank and we wait.

I hope the varmints did a good job. I once had a big female lay her eggs in an all-girl pond. So I netted the eggs and tossed them back in the woods. When I got home from work the next day, the whole yard smelled like rotten eggs. Guess they did not eat them, or at least not enough of them.

Matt the varmints cleaned up the goods ��, here's my friday update on the Ochiba/Kohaku spawn they have reached 1" and growing. Am trying my best so please don't kill me it's difficult with water and then add movement with air I selected these 3 from probably 30, enjoy
We should start seeing any hatching from the last Saturday spawn any time the night temperatures have somewhat lower am suspecting that could be slowing down the hatching time but remember my only goal with this spawn was to purge the female.

Forgive me if I overlooked it, but do you have an estimate on total number of fry? Any thoughts on what criteria you'll use for the first round of culling?

folk's months ago I mentioned that some things were going to take place on this thread and the parties involved have been informed and notified. Were about to do something very special in this hobby on this thread just hang on a little bit more

Good morning everyone, caught these 5 week old fry and removed all the smaller ones those will go to a friend's pond full of Bass and bluegills. Then I had to select 16 that will go to two different locations just to see how they develop every year at the show I ask folks to update with pictures and it never happens. The darker ones are starting to show changes on the lighter ones there were issues with a small number of them those are also going to my friends pond. The rest will go back to the above ground pool.

... It may be interesting to see how the different varieties grow. I know from my showa spawns and other's showa spawns, the light colored fry tend to outgrow the darker fry early on. But it may not work that way with your fry given the very different family history. ...

From these photos, the dark and light fry from this spawn appear to be roughly the same size on average. Orlando, you've scene them all, including the very little ones. Is that your general impression?

Matt my first culling is for deformities first and size but after that I look at size on post 563 you see the entire batch on the top picture on the second picture you see what was kept and on the third picture you see 16 that were selected from the 2nd picture. I believe that's might be what gives the impression that they were all about the same size. Here's the home for them 16 for about another week This was an experimental spawn I believe we have a good number of fry to work with and Ginrin hasn't made an appearance yet so we are all going to open the Cracker Jack box
