Nice oyagoi Orlando. I am probably a couple of months away from trying here, still way too cool. What is your water temperature? Also, what is your spawning material made of?

Water temperature is around 69 to71 but once they finish I start running fresh water for about 6 hrs to help get rid of the excess milt and that brings the water temps up to about 76.

Yes she's got a load of eggs, what will I get with this spawn? A few years ago there was a addition made to a blood line in Japan with a wild caught male oyagoi (Mako) I believe was the name given to him when I saw this particular male up for auction it's sumi caught my eye back in 2016 and my suspicion paid off here's a picture of one of their offspring from last year.Name: 20200225_153847.jpg

Hey Matt24 forgot to answer the second part of your question, I use shade cloth that's been cut to strips and all weight it down so it stays put.

It really depends on what see most of them go to the CFKS to be sold all keep around 12 or so of the better ones to grow out to nisai to go to the koi show the following year but for me to keep one or two they would have to show they could help in my backyard for example the one that's above I will keep to cross back with my Shiro Utsuri female the sumi (black) on that koi is incredible.

Congratulations on the spawn Orlando! And thanks for the feedback on our questions. But there is one point (perhaps more) that I am not clear on.

I think you are saying that the group that just spawned were the were the female kohaku and what appear to be two sanke males pictured in post #2. Right? Or was it the group in post #1 that spawned?

You are not saying that the shiro utsuri in post #8 is somehow related to these are you? If so, how? Thanks. Matt

Good evening Matt, post #1 are some of my Goshiki it takes time to build something with koi they didn't spawn on the next evening I brought in my Gosanke group post #2; Tamaura female Kohaku and the two Sanke males. The Sanke in the rear has a very particular sumi witch is why I purchased that particular koi back in 2016 and that happens to be his name (2016) he arrived here on December 31 2016, I had heard of a story about a particular koi that had been brought in from the wild some years ago in Japan to help improve the sumi and I started seeing videos with Showas included in Sanke spawnings that got my attention last year I gave that male an opportunity to spawn and one of the offspring from that cross is the tosai on post #8 so yes he's related to that male my suspicion and I went on a haunch is that some how that's showa sumi this is all me here brainstorming but to wait 3 years with that male and get those results is pretty amazing btw the other Sanke male has been crossed to the same female Kohaku and those results have never been achieved, that's one of the things that I really enjoy about breeding fish you never know what's going to happen until you try.
Ps: Matt I have never seen sumi that thick, shiny and pure. Here's the funny thing back in September 2019 I did a spawn and I posted here; experimental spawn with my Shiro males and a friend's Omosako female to try and produce two Shiro males to cross back to my original Panda Junior Omosako female and little did I know I had already achieved that task. I have pictures of that particular koi (post # 8) from the beginning and it was a mystery that sumi came in and it just surprised the heck out of me in a good way

A nice group indeed! Among them are a couple of really eye-catching kohaku.
