Hi everyone,
I am new to the forum and somewhat new to koi keeping. I recently built a new pond and also purchased two new koi, a Shusui about three weeks and a Chagoi about two weeks ago. I made the mistake of not quarantining either of these new koi. Less than a week after releasing the chagoi into my pond I noticed my fish acting strangely. I tested the water, as this is a new pond I was expecting that I may have been experiencing a spike in ammonia. After testing the ammonia was only at .25 ppm but my fish were all at the bottom and some where clamping there fins. I did a 20% water change and this seemed to fix the problem. The next morning I looked out at my koi and notice all of them were flashing. I also noticed while feeding the chagoi was spitting out any food that she ate and my goshiki has grey patches of mucus on his body, I began to think I had flukes. The next day I treated the pond with prazi, immediately upon treating the pond the chagoi started flashing like crazy for the next hour or so. I also purchased a microscope and tonight I pulled out the goshiki and scraped him and sure enough he had flukes. My question is since I treated my pond with prazi 48 hrs before I scraped the goshiki shouldn’t all the flukes be dead by now? Or does it take longer for the prazi to kill the flukes? Is there a better treatment than Prazi for flukes?
