      Question Is this sap?

      Hi everyone,

One of my koi developed spots that appear to be fungus back in early January. Maybe sap? Below are photos of what the spots looked like on January 7, 2020, and what they look like as of yesterday. I also have a picture of a glob of the fungus/mucus that fell off after treatment which I took using a low power microscope.

The koi's condition has improved, but he still has some white mucus by his gill and fin. I am not sure why it isn't getting better and am hoping someone here can help me diagnose it or suggest a better treatment.

The fish has been in quarantine (10 gal aquarium with sponge filter & fake plants) since then and treated with a variety of items (e.g., salt, Ich-X, Paraguard, & Malachite Green). The water temperature has been kept between 76-78 degrees F.

The water quality is as follows:

      pH - 7.4
      Ammonia - 0 ppm
      Nitrite - 0.25 ppm
      Nitrate - 5 ppm
Salt - 0 (It was up to 1% at one point, but I have stopped using salt since I'm not sure that it has made a difference).

I have been doing 50% H2O changes and cleaning out solid waste with a net, twice a day. The fish is only about 6", but I know a 10 gal tank is too small, so I will be moving it into an 80-90 gal Intex pool either tomorrow or the following day, once the good bacteria that I introduced has kicked in and the water quality is equal to or better than his current QT.

Please let me know if anyone has any idea what my fish is suffering from and what I should do to fix it.

Thank you in advance and please let me know if you need any more info.

what it looks like, more than SAP, is viral and will come and go for a couple of cycles and then disappear with increased immunity. The temperature is a big factor, with many of these viral problems being colder water issues and the inside QT may have a better temperature, allowing for the fishes immune system to put the lesions down for now.

Thanks, Richard. I really appreciate the feedback. Guess I'll raise the temp and salinity, cutback on the Ich-X, Malachite Green, and Paraguard, and see how he fares.

Remove all drugs and salt. They do nothing as it is a virus and no cure.
