pond next the house's footings, I hope you have an engineer look at this or else you better add extra rebar on the side where the house is ? another option is to underpin the existing footing.

put some roundness in the corners.
2 corners (at returns) = some dead spot area. floating food, and like will spin up and snatch a hold in these 2 corners. round them up some, remove the dead spots.
1 corner (27 + 17) larger corner = again a dead spot. both surface and bottom.
1 corner (18+11) smaller corner = crap will tend to sink down just behind this corner. rounding corner out. let flow of water help push things around some. will not completely remove poop on bottom, but surface less likly a leaf, floating food, etc... sticking there.
2 corners skimmer end = both corners are dead spots. there will be very little current to move crud towards the skimmer. round them out, so the little bit of current that might happen, or wind blows, stuff will move towards skimmer.

drop the bottom, and slope it towards bottom drain. 1" drop to every 10 to 12 feet. if you slope it 1" per 1 foot. well you will never be escaping that pond. once algae builds up on the bottom, it will be slipper as snot, and complete up hill battle. hoping either water level is high so you can heft leg over side to get out, or hope there is someone with a lader to get you out of pond when water level is low.

      i am showing 4 returns.
2 bottoms push across the bottom.
2 upper returns. need to be careful. to high, come winter if you plan on lower water level during winter to keep skimmer from freezing over. the upper returns will be high and dry. perhaps that is wanted result if you split 2 filter circuits. but you also may want the 2 returns high, to help push surface crude initial towads other end of pond. you might want some sort of cover over these upper returns, (like bottom drain dome). it might help with some cleaning surface muck at this end of pond. but *shrugs* each there own devices.

overall, the fish swimming will mostly move the fish poo towads the bottom drain. the slight incline on bottom just enforces were fish poo will most likely float towards. the rest is the actual current. (the current is not from the returns jetting out water, nor the suction from bottom drain and skimmer. but just the slow flow of water moving in one direction.

just caught your in CA. (woops) also just caught (showers). so most likely you do not need to be worried about cold climate and pond freezing over. doh!.
with above said in mind. do not know if you plan to shut down showers in winter or not, and need a by pass around the showers.

      Ryan,

I was planning to do a drop-in shaped polypropylene liner so rounded corners may cause unsightly folds and wrinkles. I will however follow your lead and round out (and then fold & tape down) the corner where the skimmer will be.

Also, because there was a huge tread on Koiphen discussing the unnecessary need for slopped bottoms, I will also do flat bottom on the larger section (will use aerated bottom drain) and maybe a very slight slope on the narrow / long section of the pond. Everyone including Zach Penn, Steve of Dessert Koi, and Steve (ICU) advised against slope bottoms with liners. Let’s hope the poops moves OK into the bottom drain. But honestly, I rather see a little temporary poop than a permanent fold of a liner.

      Thanks for your help.

      Brian.

Will send in some pictures once the plumbing and flat bottoms once done.

Vertical walls are installed. I tied in new rebar to rebar that I had hanging down when I pour the patio deck done months ago. Waiting for the liner to arrive.
