Thanks, the clowns are keeping me entertained for now....they have so much zing.
      DW wants a purple firefish.
I want to get a goby but need to decide between a watchman or diamond. I'm leaning toward the diamond for sand sifting but the watchman would be cool paired with a pistol shrimp.

      What the what

I woke up early this AM and saw this. Have you ever seen anything so mammalian?
The clown made a bed in the sand and went to sleep. What the heck...
My brain couldn't even process what my eyes were seeing.

My occellaris clowns sometimes sleep in the sand, but I've never seen them remain completely motionless while sleeping (or seen them breath that fast). He may be perfectly fine but I'd watch him over the next couple days.
Also, when was the tank cycled? Saltwater tanks need longer then freshwater to cycle and it appears you started this build a week ago. Hopefully there are no issues.

Live rock brings lots of good things as well as lots of bad things. I do not have the experience to fight the bad things so I chose to start from zero.
Besides, dry rock becomes live after time. Also its about 1/3 of the price of live rock and you don't have to stick it in a tub for 3 months cooking the yuckiness out.
Mr Wishful Thinking, Dry rock becomes live if you dump it in the tropical ocean and retrieve it a year later.

Where were you a month ago Mr. Late to the Party

No, but I did buy dry to avoid the hassles of dealing with live rock. It'll take 8 years for my tank to cycle but its cool.

I can’t tell what’s going on with the Favia but I hope it’s doing well

I'm still wondering how you cycled the tank in a week.

I had 2 stores check the water parameters and they said everything was OK.
But to be truly honest...I don't even know what cycling is.
I put in 2 tiny clowns and they did ok. Added a firefish. Then some corals.

I think 1.) the bio load isn't heavy on these smaller fish and 2.) there is a lot of evaporation...about 6-7 cups daily.
But you may be right...everything might go tits up any second

We all forget to do all the research sometimes.
I wouldn't worry too bad for now. 40 gallons is a lot for three little fish to pollute. Just watch the tank and wait a few weeks to get anymore fish.

Did you use the live sand? That is some bio already if you did.

Oh I did research...but mainly on equipment (especially lighting), coral species and fish compatibility. I glazed over the tank cycling part because it was pretty boring.
But I thought I could get away with 3 small fish in an uncycled tank without too many issues. Well, actually I have a small coral beauty in there now too
      Fingers crossed.
I'll do water changes to keep the mineral, etc up but mainly watch the corals for any signs of distress.
I've never been big on measuring parameters so we'll see how it goes.

Not technically. I bought the tank used and it had sand in it. The guy emptied the tank a couple days before I picked it up and the sand was still wet.
So there might've been some bio on it but I did rinse it a few times when I got home, so I'm not sure if any bio was left on it.

      So far everything looks good.
I switched my AI Prime light settings to David Saxby's signature settings. When you don't know what you are doing - copy someone who does

My only regret thus far is buying that stupid purple firefish. That fish is a moron with suicidal tendencies. He also stays under a rock for 98% of the time. People say that they do better in pairs, but best case would me having 2 dart fish attempting daily suicides and worst case would be having 2 darts hiding under rocks.

Plus I really don't want to push my luck with the fish load.

Maybe the store where you bought him would take him back in a trade. No point really in keeping him if you don't enjoy him.

I’ll learn to live with it. He only comes out during feedings.
But he has been staying out longer and longer each time.
