      egg fertilization question

Does milt have to be directly deposited on eggs to fertilize them?

      For example:
If you had 2 floating cages in a tank to breed orandas, one with white orandas and one with red orandas would a small amount of semen travel through the water and fertilize the eggs in the other cage?

With koi It takes about 2minutes for the males sperm to find the egg and fertilize it after that from what understand sperm dies and no longer viable. Can't see the fish you have being that much different now having said that I would consider some sorta barrier in order to make it a little more difficult for the cross contamination to take place.
