Skin Flukes - How have you decimated the population?

      Hi Everyone,

Having issues with *&#*#&! skin flukes (Scope confirmed). It's a battle that never ends. I'm in Canada and am having a hard time obtaining Prazi with the new laws, been waiting on the shipment for a month and a half. In the mean time, Pro-Form C and PP treatments (Far apart from each other ). With the PP I bypass the bio filter (salt the BF to 0.6) and do a 2.0ppm for 6 hours. Problem is, the BF still has the flukes within it (Once again, scope confirmed). So I destroy the flukes from the fish and water column but then reintroduce when I start the BF up. Like come on.

Recirc Quarantine System - Mechanical Filt. and Kaldness MBBR
      Ammonia - 0
      Nitrites - 0
      Nitrates - 5.0ppm
      pH - 7.8
      Temp - 66f

Anyone deal with a similar situation and have any success in eradicating these little *******s?

      Cheers,

      Freeman

I much prefer (and have great success with) Fluke-M or Flubendazole.

Ditto what Andrea says, Fluke-M works way better than Prazi for me. You need to do two treatments approximately one week apart at your temps, to catch the next generation.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can find a source here and give it a try.

If PP is your only available option, I have treated my ponds many times with 2.0PPM PP with almost constant increases due to degradation, using test strips to evaluate concentrations. I have never turned off my filters and have not found that the filters were severely impacted, as measured by no increase in ammonia, or nitrites. The fact that it is burning up stuff in the filter means the concentration decays faster, but staying on top of it, you can maintain the concentration needed to treat not only the pond and fish, but also the filters. There are better treatments, but as I stated, if you have no other available options it will work.
