Good start. Was it a Showa spawn?

No, it was a Shiro Utsuri spawn but the background on the female oyagoi has to be confirmed, she is owned by a good friend of mine since 2003 and his koi were always purchased from the same breeder so it gives me some relief as to the roots of this koi but knowing who the actual breeder is gives a good piece of mind. Here's a pic of their grandmother owned by me.

In that case, I can sure see why you would be surprised by that much beni.

Grandma's lookin' good! So I gather that she is the mother of the male used in this spawn.

You are correct I will add this the female that took part in this spawn is 16 yrs old what am trying to accomplish is to bring a gene that will bring down the number of deformities by attempting to produce a couple of males that I can cross back with my original Panda Junior female.

Hope, a better way of addressing it would be calling it (the blood line) instead of just the gene.

Interesting..... I'm detecting a slight note of secrecy hidden in this somewhere, yes?

Or maybe just that matching that male to an unrelated female is likely to produce fewer deformities than matching the grandmother with one of her sons.

By "bringing a gene" I think Orlando meant not inbreeding, which causes deformities. Theres no gene that stops deformities that I am aware of.

Not at all, I could have used a better choice of words sometimes explaining a thought in the breeding process can be a little complicated or confusing.

The correct or the best term, should have been to bring a different blood line to help and reduce deformities. All take this opportunity to share this piece of information, from the original spawn back in 2017 I only kept to move forward around 1500 fry by the time these little fellas were 6 months old the group was down to 26 fry or Tosai that I could move forward with.
