Drain on a 55 gallon Fluid Bed?

Has anyone ever tried to put in a drain for Birdman's 55 gallon Fluid Bed Bio Filter for cleaning? I could put in a 2" shower drain, but I'm hesitant considering the only thing that would be holding it in place would be the 3M 5200 poly adhesive. Any ideas? Thanks

Sure, I put drains on both of mine after realizing that a lot of mulm got past my SC and
collected in the MB's. Shower drains worked fine through the bottom... I use them in my
S/G filters too... or you can drill a hole in the side with a 90* fitting to the bottom of the filter
to drain the debris that collects there.

This with 2 parts connected my threaded connection will work well with a ball valve to open and close.

Thanks. Did you connect the drains to the surface of the barrel with only the 5200 poly adhesive?

Thanks. Sorry, I'm not completely following. You need threaded? Is the inside of it threaded? I see one below it in the customer also viewed section that is threaded on the outside...

it comes with two parts. The male part with screen will stay inside the barrel with the threaded end sticking out, so that you can thread in the female part ( has gaskets both sides), this makes a tight connection.

I used polyurethane roofing sealant but 5200 would work as well. I discard the washers
and the grate and just use the sealant on both sides of the barrel and screw the two parts
      together.

I should say too that if your media is free floating, of course you'd want to leave the screen
in place. Mine was contained so it couldn't reach the drain.
