      Summer's end

Well, summer is come to an end, no lily blooms or lotus blooms to post. However, I do have a few blooms, though scarce on some Aztec arrowhead plants and some rain lily plants. There are also some blooms on the water lettuce, which will sprout next year and produce plants, as they did this year!

Nice blooms Frank. I still am having some lily blooms. Hard to believe summer has come to an end.

It has seemed like a very short but intense summer. Of course we still have high temps and humidity down here. I hope it cools off soon. I'd like to be able to sit outside a bit.

Thanks, all. This pic is one of my favorite taros, although it is an older variety known as Colocasia antiquorum var. illustris. It is also called "imperial" taro. I have put it in with my other tropical plants, and am hoping it survives the winter.
The other pics are of the "cold frame" we built to shelter the plants. It started to rain on us while we were building it so we have to go back and "tighten" it some more when the weather is better. Not pretty, but it should work.

I honestly didn't put too much effort into my pond plants this year. We got a boat and went put fishing pretty often and when we weren't doing that it was just too hot to do much outside. I'm hoping there is a little spring next year. It seems we go from winter to summer and then back to winter again with no spring or fall lately.

Glad to gear from you. Wondering how things were going for you. Good to hear you are enjoying your boat.

I have used cold frames to cover my lotuses in the past and it worked, and years ago when we had our garden center we had a cold frame that was a more permanent type structure and it worked so l expect this will also. I also kow of someone who used this type of cover for several winters and they worked for him but he was in a warmer temperature zone than I am. If you build one, please post pics.
