Yes, they did mean metallic but spelled it wrong. The problem you are encountering is that there are many people that makes mistakes with spelling and/or just guess as to what Koi are. I have seen many dealers call Koi they sell by the wrong name because they just don't know.
If people don't know I really wish they would ask it throws those on the internet trying to learn how to fully ID off seeing something mislabeled. I have mutts and I will admit they are full mutts. Have a failed asagi that has no beni but its eye. Someone tried to tell me to call it a matsuba instead well matsuba is black pine cone and this is definitely blue. I have a few I have no idea about one looks goshiki but is from an asagi spawn. But I would ask before i put up hey everyone look at this such and such koi and make up a name. One day I will put them all up in the mutt area and try and have people put a real name besides mutt koi.
You seem like a very precise, practical person. I'm interested to what you bring to the forum in the future. Welcome!
Here is an example of "what to call it"?
My best guess is this is a failed ginrin Ochiba. When I bought it, it had no marking and I thought it was a ginrin Soragoi. The pail cream color pattern developed and moves about the head. Four years ago it covered his eyes so I call him The Mask.
