You do have a lot to take care of after seeing your clown fish, sea horses, and pipe fish thread. Your babies all look great. Seahorse Sam is hatching brine shrimp for me to feed my baby axolotls. He raises them for his sea horse ans clown fish babies, so an extra batch twice a week is no problem for him. What else to you feed your babies besides brine shrimp?

Here is another one of my axolotls, a 2 year old copper female.

I was using rotifers for the first food for the clownfish but I had a culture crash and have been starting with bbs and they seem to be doing fine. People used to say bbs were to large for them but now they are saying they aren’t. If I don’t need rotifers that makes it much easier on me.

I start the Axolotls on newly hatched bbs and move the Axolotls to chopped up black worms when the are a few weeks old. They can eat about a quarter inch black worm at that time. I continue to feed the bbs for a couple of weeks until I know they can all eat the black worms.

I am moving the babies from my apartment to the axolotl building as there are two many to keep them in the apartment. The pic of Glowbug is not very good because I took it it from a distance away. Still gives you an idea of what she looks like.

These babies are now 2 months old. They have grown a lot and there are a lot of them. Here are some of the "wild" type. There are 240 babies And the majority are wild types.

I lost about 20 babes yesterday due to my not doing a water change in a few days. They were mostly in two tubs, and with 14 tubs that is not too bad. Still hated to lose them. The rest are doing well. I still have about 140 of these little guys! This pic is not real clear because the tubs are actually 1.5 gallon shoe box sized containers so they are not clear like glass. His body will grow to fit his eyes but for now, his eyes are bigger than his head. Good thing, because he is watching me.

With only two tubs having problems and all the babes dying in them I have decided it probably was lack of water changes. I am not sure but I think the babies got too warm, as the temps were up this weekend to around 70*-72* , although the others would have been just as warm. but that is the one explanation that seems likely. they were on the end, so it may have been warmer there than elsewhere. Not as warm now, but still nice temps for them so i have cut the heaters thermostat down so it will only come on if it gets really cold, which it is not supposed to do so. Axolotls do best in 62* -68* temps. If the water get into the 70s they can get a fungus.
The other explanation may be that there were half of the number of babies in these tubs as the other tubs, 10 and 11, and i may have feed them too much and the excess food polluted the water and the lack of oxygen in the water may have killed them. I will be more diligent in my care taking.

It could have been any of those things really or a combination of them. Maybe there was some excess food and the water already needed changing and the higher temps depleted the oxygen a little. I’ve found out that raising aquatic babies can be tricky at times. I’ve had good luck with clownfish fry for months before and then all of a sudden all of the fry die right after they hatch for a few batches and then they start doing okay again even though I do everything the same.

Thanks Mike. I know you are right. Still hate losing them after 2 months. You are right about there being many factors as to why they died. They were all copper Axolotl babies and I was looking forward to what the might look like.

The remaining babies are mostly wilds but there is the possibility of some coppers, melanoids, and some leucistic babies in the mix. I have been told that copper babies start off light colored and darken as they grow to maturity. The babies that were from a copper cross so I knew they were copper, all died, but the others are all from the same pairing, a copper female and a male melanoid. Both have leucistic in their ancestry. So the possibilities are still there! These are some that I hope my turn out to be coppers, nut they may be some lighter colored wilds.

Sometimes the guys just like to chill at the top of the tank, using the anacharis as a float. This time the axolotl looks like it is standing upright leaning on the anacharis like it is a ladder. The red and white electrical cord is behind the tank.

Jeepers, creepers, where'd you get those peepers? These little guys are now 3 inches long and now ready to sell. They are in opaque containers so it is not possible to get good pictures, but you can see them watching me!

Yes, but these are Axolotls. Both are salamanders, but the Axolotl does not mature and leave the water like other salamanders. The Axolotl keeps its gills and remains in the water.

I sold my 3-4 inch babies today to a local pet shop. I am getting more eggs in a few weeks so I will have babies in a few weeks to start raising! I enjoy watching them grow and seeing what I have as they grow. Here are some of the babies.
