My newest "addition" is a baby I got from a woman who bought some axolotl eggs from me and this is one of the babies from them. I am waiting for another one also.

This little baby is about 7-8 months old and is around 5-6 inches long. I call it "Freckles" because of the tiny spots on the face. The spots may get larger as it grows older and look "dirty" but for now they just look like freckles.

This little guy, now a sub-adult, came to me with its front right foot and toes missing. It has re-grown most of its foot and the toes are now re-growing. How wonderful it is to see this happening. Doesn't he look happy?

It is amazing that they can grow back their legs or feet. Where do you keep your axolotls? I remember you were keeping them in your greenhouse before you moved.

I have a shed behind the house that they are in. I have a one room air conditioner in it for the summer, and have space heaters in it for the winter. They need their temps between 628 and 68* for their best health. Too warm and they get a fungus on them that left untreated will kill them. That pic of the one growing back his foot looks like his foot s white but that is just how the light was shining on it. It is really healing well.
I have been trying to get good pictures with them in their tanks, but that is almost impossible. The glass aquariums get stuff on them as well as scratches. Even with a cleaning and water change, it is still hard to get pics without have reflections showing. I decided to try something different. I bought a clear plastic rectangular bowl, added fresh water and made an axolotl picture studio! Look at the result as I took pictures of two of the 3 inch axolotls that I am selling. These are just juveniles but will grow to about 12 inches.

Never thought when i started raising these little guys that i would also start raising things to feed them, but with as many as i have, that is what i am now doing! I started a worm farm a few weeks ago, mainly because one of my sources can't get them in the winter, and secondly, having to go to the store every week and going through the boxes to make sure the worms are alive and healthy is not fun. the worm farm i have is not any bigger than a shoe box, but it will work for what I need, Today I started a seed shrimp culture. These are tiny shrimp that the adults are about the size of a period on your computer. They are fed to small fish, such as baby betta, and I will feed them to newly hatched axolotls. They are freshwater animals, so no saltwater to deal with as with baby brine shrimp. Here is my tank set up. Yes, those are dead lily pads in the tank. And yes, it is just a 5 gallon tank with leaves and a plastic scouring pad in it for the shrimp to hide in.

I’ve found out with most anything I’ve raised is you are better off raising your own food for them. It is hard to get a reliable source and if you find one they are usually cost prohibitive.

I saw several axolotl at Aquatic Critter the other day in the fish section. Have you been selling some to them or are they coming from someone else?

One of the "names" sometimes listed for an axolotl morph is "gfp." It means that is carries a gene in its genetic makeup that causes it to "glow" with a green glow when placed under a blue light or a black light. Here is a pic of a gfp leucistic.

Albinos look weird because their eyes have no pigmentation so it looks as though they have no eyes. Pikachu looks like he's an alien from some ghostly world, but he is really a beauty! Don't you love his cute smile?

They are odd little guys. My SIL had a different colors and typed. Somewhere I have some pics of his. If I come across them I will post them here for you to see. When they would go away I would be in charge of feeding all of them. It took a lot of time to do.

The more you have the more time it takes but one or two doesn’t take as much time. Also, once you get your routine down it goes much faster. I would love to see your pics.

These little guys are now big enough to travel to new homes! Babies need to be at least 3 inches long and have all four legs developed before shipping.

The varying "morphs" of these creatures has brought about a variety of colors and patterns, but they are still very limited as to selection.
