When To Bring In Taro Plants

I have quite a few taro plants outside right now and am wondering at what temperature they need to come inside. I never seem to remember from year to year! Getting too old to keep all that in my head, I suppose.

Yesterday we were in the 90's here, today it will be over 20 degrees cooler. Overnight temps are going to drop into the 40's in the next few days, some in the low 40's. I've read that they won't survive under 45 degrees. Is that correct?

Also, quite a few of mine are in the waterfall or in pots of rocks with no soil, so those are all bare root. Do I need to pot those up when I bring them inside?

I've been keeping them inside in a kiddie pool during winter, always in water. But some of the smaller ones rotted. Would it be better to let them dry out and only water them once in a while?

Sorry for all the questions. I want to get this right this time around.

      Thanks for your help.

I would not pot the ones that are bare root pull them out of the water cut off the tops and roots and let them dry and then store them in cool place in dry sawdust or peatmoss I try too bring mine in before first frost

Thank you! That would save me some work if I don't have to pot those. That's always a good thing in my book since I always have more to do that I can manage to get done.

I have been keeping mine in my unheated garage that has windows. I water them only when they look dry. Maybe twice a month. I pull mine in and out of the garage on warm days. I have plant caddies that will hold four pots each.
I put mine in the garage before our first frost anywhere from end of October to the first week of November.
I have a huge Regal Shield that stays inside. I have it close to windows and it sits in a tray or saucer. I water it about every 7 days. I treat it as a houseplant.
Also inspect your taro once a week for spider mites. Have something on hand to spray on them to kill any insects that gets on them.
      Good luck.

Thank you. I guess it's time to get organized to do this. I'm glad I have until the first frost, but that probably won't be long now. I appreciate the information and other's experience.
