Can it be light-dependent? More Sun light > darker they become. My ochiba has much lighter color in my warmed garage in the winter though the water is warmer.

It's temperature dependent, warmer darker cooler lighter.

It cannot be in my case, because my outdoor pond has lower water temperature in the summer than my indoor over-wintering tank in the winter, and my ochiba is darker in the outdoor pond in the summer and lighter in the indoor pond in the winter.
