      Turtle brumation question

I read turtles brumate at the bottom of ponds in mud.
How do you guys with turtles who live in koi ponds handle winter if your pond has a bottom drain?
Where would the turtles brumate? My pond is bowl shaped so all debris gravitates toward the drain so the sleeping turtles would slide to the center. I don’t want to bring them in though as they are used to spending all year outside already (they are rescues).

I would put a big container of sand on the bottom that they can bury themselves in. The fish won't be producing much waste in the winter so the bottom drain doesn't have to do very much work.

This guy has a lot of good information about turtles
