      Koi Head Shape!

      Hello all,

New amateur koi keeper here...I would like to learn about the shapes of koi head, specifically tosai. I hope I could learn how to spot tosai that could have the potential for good growth.

I tried looking on the forum to see if there were related posts, but not really. If you look at koi C and koi D, koi C definitely has a short head but larger and wider forehead while koi D has a pointier and longer head. Which would indicate potential good growth / better body conformation?

      Thank you!
      Kevin

I don't know how head shape relates to growth because I'm still new but C has the better head and looks to be a better Koi overall. The head on that one forms more of a equilateral triangle (which is just how I personally try to pick them, the longer pointier heads don't look as nice to me. Also, C appears to have more length between the end of the Dorsal fin and the tail fin which means it should grow longer than the other one.

The embedded "Growing Jumbo Koi" video in the following link talks about head shape (around 10:00):

Thanks! Very good info. I think I know which type is preferred.
