      Very first goldfish spawn ever!

I had a small pond back in the 90s, but my goldfish never lived more than a season or two. Now, thanks to Koiphen, I know a little about filtration and water quality and things are much better for my fish. A couple of weeks ago I woke up to a flurry of activity in the lily pads and realized I was having my very first spawn ever! How exciting! They chased the poor girl around the pond for hours until she finally swam up the little stream that leads to my skimmer. There she found a crevase next to the front of the skimmer and hid there for the rest of the day.

A couple of days later I found eggs...and then baby goldfish. I thought they were all dead because they were motionless, so I sucked some of them up in an eye dropper and they started wiggling. They must have been just evolved from the eggs. The mother is a nice Sarasa, and I thought about trying to raise them in an aquarium, but then figured whats the use. I have 22 nice fish in my pond now, and if I add any more, I want them to be nice ones. I decided to let nature take its course. I think most of them might have been eaten by now. If any make it, they will probably get sucked into the BD and flushed out into the flower bed. I don't see any sign of them at this point; the fry picture was taken about a week ago. I will keep watching for them.

Goldfish eggs are whitish/yellow... those look like frog or newt eggs to me, and the ''fry'' don't look particularly like goldfish fry either.

These are goldfish eggs. They attach to rocks and such.

      These are amphibious eggs.

Looks like you have a bunch of tadpoles on your hands.

Hmmm...I thought they look like tadpole eggs too, but look what they hatched into...definitely not tadpoles. They look like miniature fish. I have never seen a newt in my pond either. To my knowledge, the only egg layers I have are frogs and goldfish. Anyone else have any ideas?

      They are early stage tadpoles.

Sorry they aren't goldfish. Hopefully you get that spawn someday soon.

I have a small plant pond. I have had spotted salamanders (slate gray or black with yellow dots) and red spotted salamanders breed in one of my small plant ponds.

Oh I see what you mean. I have seen VERY tiny tadpoles so I figured they were born looking like tadpoles.
Oh well...that's what I love about this forum; I learn something new just about every day. Thank you very much for setting me straight.

You have tadpoles. I always have them in my patio pond that I keep extra water plants in.

Toad tadpoles will not be eaten by your goldfish , but frog tadpoles will be eaten.

Yeah I get that. I had millions of tadpoles this Spring. I guess I just never saw them at this early stage of development.
