      Minuma tosai / PSKoi

Super excited about my shipment of tosai that arrived today. I picked these guys out on 4/30/19 so it was a long wait until they cleared QT and testing. This is my first time buying from Russ and I'll definitely be back! His recent buying trip in Japan had some of the best quality tosai I have seen at these price points. When I saw these from Minuma I was instantly sold. I tried to choose wisely but as usual I tend to get caught up in the wow factor and these beauties were no exception. For the goshiki, I tried to select the ones that had the least amount of sumi at this age to see how they develop along with the best skin from what I could tell in the photos.

I'm kinda iffy about the showa as the beni seems a bit 'hard' but still curious to see what you guys think. These will never be destined for the show arena but I still hope I chose some fish with decent quality beni that will last

One of the most beautiful photos I've seen. As if there's no water there. Did you take these photos?

I did yes, thanks. I used an off-camera flash shot through an umbrella. I have a lot of equipment from my photography hobby days that always comes in handy.

All of them are really nice. It's difficult to pick one over the other. It seems the gin might be better on the largest one. I picked up a regular showa from Minuma as I couldnt even begin to rank the goshiki. It's a little small, but it is feisty at feeding time. I agree that your photos are amazing.

Nooo, definitely not taken with a phone. Used my Nikon DSLR as these fish were worthy of some real photos

Didn't see one regular Goshiki to buy? lol

I spent the day at PSKoi on July 7th, got to see some great Fish. The Minuma Koi were very nice, trust me, Buy these Koi before the Breeder become Well Know and the Price goes nuts. I left a couple Goshiki there that I really liked, Seeing the quality in person really changes things, but I'll never tell, might want to buy one down the road. lol

Lol, two of the nicer Wagoi left with the gentleman the came towards the end of your visit. They were two I liked a lot.

JCardona, I like all of your selections quite a bit. They all have nice bodies and lovely patterns, beautiful crisp Beni. I look forward to following their progress.

You should do a separate post on the details of your photography technique , if you are willing to share. What settings on the camera, handheld or tripod, special lighting, if any, etc. Really fantastic quality shots !!!!!!!!!

Beautiful goshiki. I never seen goshiki with this quality of skin. Did you purchase them while Russ was still in Japan? I am new to PSKoi and not sure how the process work.

Some of the koi sold while Russ was in Japan, a number sold after he returned home. The koi are assigned a number and the ones marked sold are no longer available.

You don't know how hard it is for me not to want to keep one (or four) of these, lol. Goshiki are my favorite non-GoSanke.

I was referring to the process of buying koi while Russ is still in Japan. Are the koi he photograph while he is at various breeder available for purchase?

Yes, as he's photographing fish they are going up for presale on his forum. The threads you see on that forum are posted while in Japan. If you see a fish you want, contact Russ. A few weeks later they are all shipped to the states where they go through QT and KHV testing. After they're clear they start shipping to customers for airport pickup. The whole process took over two months but his fish are worth the wait!
