      Too Many Goldfish

I have a water garden/goldfish pond. I'm normally very careful with trying to keep my goldfish population in check. I keep spawning mops in the pond and change them out once they are used so any eggs that weren't eaten will dry out. I rarely have any fry survive and had only one last year. But I made a huge mistake and now there are more fish than I have room for.

I moved some water lilies from the pond to an Intex pool that I set up just for them. I carefully removed all the goldfish eggs I could see on the leaves and stem. I never considered that there might be eggs in the pots. Evidently there were lots of them.

There are now somewhere around 50 goldfish fry in that pool and I have no idea what to do with them. The stores here won't take them. I'm open to any suggestions if anyone has some advice to share.

These little guys are now about an inch to inch and a half long and some are already showing color. They could be a mix of most anything as there is a large variety in the pond. There are red, orange, lemon yellow, apricot yellow, white, shubunkin, comets and commons, and even a few Watonai in there. From the ones I have seen they all look like either comets or shubunkins at this point, but that's only a guess. No short tails, or split tails that I have seen.

If anyone would like some of these little one to raise, please let me know. They are healthy and fat and free. I've never had any diseases in my pond and the only thing I have treated for is flukes when needed. They would need to be picked up in Northern VA.

Thanks for any help and advice you can give me. I could use it.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I've been trying to get decent pictures, but I'm not being very successful. I apologize for these, but maybe someone can get an idea of what some of these little ones look like. The water is very green at the moment, so I have trouble even finding them.

      Thanks for looking.

If anyone has any suggestions for how to place these little guys, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

One more. I don't seem to have the knack for posting pictures, but I'm working on it. They seem to be awfully large.

I wish I could help you out. Put an ad in Craigslist and also Facebook Marketplace for your area.

Thanks. I wish you could help, too! I'll give those suggestions a try. I wish I had room, since I'm already getting attached to them.

If you have Next Door you could put an ad there too. Good luck.

Thanks, Nancy, for that suggestion. I'll try that, too.
