      Sakai sanke and Dainichi kohaku

      Hi,
these are my fish and i want to know what you guys think of them...i mean weaknesses and plus side that you can think of

the sanke is from Sakai fish farm size 21cm considered "not expensive price tag"

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTApa1_9pII

the kohaku is from Dainichi 40cm "reasonable price"

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W4mLbKSE9eU

Oh man I'm going to fail this test

I like the lines on the Sanke. Do you think its a boy?

I'm curious what you do with the Kohaku. I've always thought that the "pigeon breasted" body type and pointy head was not desirable? I think it makes the tail look weaker than it actually is.

I think the skin on both fish is good. No idea on beni.

good points on the sanke: Good body line, nice beni typical of sakai, attractive pattern, and tail tube that matches the fish. Bad points: The sumi looks more ashy than blue, and the body is good but not typical of the average bulky sakai fish. (im sure your magic keeping will beef the fish up though)

Good points on the kohaku: the shiroji is decent, the skin is decent, the kiwa looks good enough, the pattern is interesting, balanced, and i think will look great on a bigger fish. Bad points: pointy head, the tail tube does not carry the power that the shoulder does, the beni is not strong looking, and the sashi on the shoulder looks a little sloppy.

      Sanke now at 59cm

2nd pic was at 18 nov not oct...my bad

im not so sure what the sex is, the cheeks and fins still very soft and sleek, but the anal still not showing female
it kind surprise me while it grow rather well the sumi still getting thicker (usually sanke sumi in my pond will drop at the growth period from tosai to sansai, and will come up after)
the weaknesses is the pattern i guess the main beni rather unbalance, and some of ginrins scale at the beni plate...for the sumi well i believe in sakais sanke gen, been keeping some of them and never let me down when they grows slow down

      Kohaku Male now at 71cm

I always want to keep a Dainichi Dragon bloodlines...so when i got to pick one i got excited even this fish has many weaknesses
the sashi is...well you can see for yourself
      the pattern rather heavy upfront
and most of all the body weight also heavy on front and the tailtube not showing a koi that can grow big to support his bodies...but here we are @23 months already sizing 71cm

i dont know yet what is the sex of sanke...my guessing also male
No you're not...what you said is true, now i know what to say to this kinda body (pidgeon breasted!) always said heavy upfront type ,
and yes its not desireable not my cup of tea also but still i bought him just because of "dragon" bloodlines

sanke: almost all of your comments are true..the sumi is quite good now i think but the pattern is slight unbalance
kohaku: shiroji true...not too good not so bad for a male...sashi is his main weakness you got this right , actually i like high shoulder but i think they are to strong making the tail look more weak

      Thumbs up

      Love these threads Han.

Good to know that even at your level, you sometimes buy based on breeder/bloodline even when you know you shouldn't, lol.
Oh, I've chased many a unicorns in my day....

Amazing to see on Dragon that no matter what - the tail & head are not fixable.

Maybe latter i'll post her...the body structure is very good already around 73cm but the skin and pattern

I much prefer the sanke over the kohaku as tosai for the same reasons as others have said.

That being understood, I am again really impressed at how you have grown these out! Great job. Even though the kohakus' conformation is a limiting factor, you have brought out the potential in its other traits. I had thought the sanke's beni was a bit weak but it has held together well. Bravo!

My pond only reaches those temperatures for about 3 months a year. This year my pond still has not hit 21C.
