      Underwater gravity returns

      Hi

I’m finalizing plans for construction and would like to return water just below the water line on a gravity fed line (coming from a DYI shower and s@g filter). Probably looking at running about 3500 GPH through the pipe.

I will most likely have a water tight tank above water line to prevent back ups but I’m wondering if a 2” pipe can accomplish this or if it’ll need to be 3”.

Length of all pipe plus number and type of fittings on the return to the pond would be needed to be calculated. This resistance will determine drop needed to supply enough pressure. A rough estimate of 12' pipe plus a few fittings would be 5 inches drop needed for a 3" pipe and 27" inches drop needed for a 2" pipe. This was just a quick estimate to show 2 vs 3 pipe. Don't use 2" pipe.

The real Batman wears polyester! Don't be fooled by the plastic imposter.

2" pipe will not work for you but 3" pipe will.
