      They Must Be Nuts.....

Hey All, I was on the Blackwater Creek website to day and was looking at their top rated fancy goldfish. By jaw dropped when I saw this fish list at a mere $4300 smackers!! Yup, you read it right. But other than the price, look at their requirements. They have refusal to sell to anyone they deem not worthy and you must provide an updated photo every 6 months! Maybe a Suadi Arabian prince will buy it! Here's the link and take a gander at some of their other fish and their prices

      Are they crazy????

I've been to their website a few times. Their fish are ugly, the names they come up with are stupid and everything is overpriced. Why does all the weird stuff always happen in FL?

If I could sell a $25.00 for $250.00. Who is the one that is nuts? Purchaser or seller?

There is always someone willing to buy if they feel the price is right and their money is burning a hole in their pocket. Looking at the fish and such, my guess is the requirement is more about making sure it doesn't end up as parent stock for another breeder and to see how it develops over time to further evaluate its parent stock. IMHO its a great looking goldfish though.

I have seen those fish long ago. Some of the ones called SANKE GOLDFISH or something. They all cost multiple hundreds of dollars and they ALL were ugly. That particular $4300 goldfish isn't great looking and has an ugly flaw in the ventral fin. It can't even win in a show. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging that price. The ethics of charging such a price might be questioned by some... But as kdh said, it is the buyer who is truly nuts if they pay such prices.

Also these aren't FANCY GOLDFISH. They're single tails. There's nothing special about them. I also inquired a while back. They aren't sterile but they do not breed true. You'll get normal junk looking fish if you try and breed them. This is why you don't see anybody else with them.

$1000 for a scrawny, ugly, poor deportment, badly stressed fish with tattered and uneven fins. Truly a painful sight indeed. Goldenfish? LOL!

I thought the Blackwater page was april fools left-over. I had random spawn goldfish that looked a lot better than their $1000 fish.

It's been there over 6 months so idk about that... They've "lowered" the price on it by 14% or whatever that number is... And still it sits there. Maybe there's hope for humanity still. Maybe fishkeepers aren't idiots.

It sure isn't anything special. I wouldn't spend $4300 on a fish that could die at any time!

I used too have a strain of gold fish that were long finned shubunkins and many of them were a deep red/orange that had deep black spots they were really hard too see swimming in the lily pond and were my favorites. well a little green heron had no problem seeing them and it cleaned me out.

That really sucks. I have grown to hate those birds. It seems a double barrel shotgun is the only deterrent I have found that works.

I have seen a couple of YouTube videos where they claimed to have over $300k koi collection and they were all pond mutts.

They did have very nice pond setup and garden though.
      https://youtu.be/Jfv4M3FC4z4

      Their koi is so-so
They must have bought from this OP website.
As long as there is demand and supply I suppose
