Has anyone built a spray bar and timer to clean a sieve filter?

I use a stationary DIY parabolic sieve screen in my coldwater trout system. However I have issues with it clogging with biofilm once the fish get large and the population dense enough in the system. (Presently about 2000 3 1/2 to 4 inch trout in the system with two 55 gallon moving bed filters, 2 sock filters after the trough in the sieve filter, and a Birdman S & G before the water gets to the tank.)

Not solids clogging the sieve screen but biofilm. I have to periodically spray the sieve screen with a garden hose and nozzle to clear it. Granted part of the problem may be the lower flow of this small 250 gallon fish tank (15 gallons per minute) isn't enough force vs. a large system. At some point you can see much of the water just running down the screen into the trough.

Just wondering if any one has done this and any tips to getting the hardware. I can see where one could easily mount the spray bar on the tote I have used for my DIY sieve filter. However I'm not an electronics person.

BTW as soon as I get a floating pen completed the fish are going outside to a dedicated trout pond. I only have one trout pond, but to produce a crop of trout annually I have to put the YOY in a floating pen to protect them from the larger fish free swimming trout in the pond.

Catfish Whiskers has built a spray nozzle modification for the Zakki Sieve so he can spray the screen clean without opening the top.

I discussed high pressure nozzles with Zac quite a few years ago , and He recomended to shoot for a nozzle that gives about 1 gallon per minute at 40 psi , of course the more pressure applied to it the better and I have at least 80 psi in My yard . I chose #F8010 from the chart below at Bex.com . They are 3/8’’ male pipe threads . If You want to build a log manifold with a series of nozzles in a row , schedule 80 PVC pipe has a thick enough wall to be able to drill and tap into , and screw the nozzles directly into the pipe .

Another possibility is to use a low power UVC lamp to inhibit biofilm growth.

I assume you would plumb it in right before the sieve? I would want to set up a timer to release the spray at intervals. Perhaps talk to a rep at BEX?

      Thanks for the information folks!
