This is amazing. I hatched some babies for the first time this year and it wasn't nearly this many. It's really cool to watch them grow. Do you have any current pictures?

EDIT: Didn't see page 2. They're looking great.

It's 2020 and time for another spawn. Big spawn this year, about 10-20% of the fry are shown.Name: koi fry 2020.jpg

Wow! How exciting! What do you do with the fry once they grow?

Last year I sold them all, didn't do any culling. I kept about 8, 4 are looking really good.
This year sell a few, give most away to friends, let the tobies feast....

Group. Couldn't be bothered doing selective since I don't have room to keep any more for growout.

I'm guessing 2-3 fish spawned, 20-30,000 fry right now. My largest kohaku girl didn't participate, she was really getting beaten up the next day so I stripped her and got about a cup of eggs. Would have been at least another 20,000. LOL

Next year maybe I'll strip her and fertilize manually with a nice kohaku male. The eggs pic is in the bottom of a 17 gallon bucket (for perspective).

Kind of hard to catch the small ones. I'll bowl them in a couple of months when they are 10+ "

Yes, if you can sedate them and strip them fertilization rate would be at least 60% ish... natural spawning is much lower I've learned from saki fish farm videos
