      PSKoi - Koi Show Winners

I want to say thank you to all of the PSKoi customers that have supported us over the years. I greatly appreciate the trust and patience you have shown to me so that I can help you find the Koi you are looking for. It is a great honor to be able to go to Japan, develop relationships, and then have access to some of the best Koi these breeders supply.

In late 2013 I made a choice to increase the quality of what I find and buy for PSKoi. It became quality over quantity. I try very hard to find Koi that will take time to develop, are of high quality and conformation, and will last for many years of enjoyment. Sometimes it takes many years for these Koi to be ready to show so patience and keeping skills are very important. Some of these Koi show well when they are young and, after they change as they grow, eventually get to the point where they can show again. Some just take time as they were chosen to do well in the larger size categories. Most of these Koi were purchased, and sold, so that they can show in the US. In the future I plan to make every effort to work with the breeders I deal with to find more Koi that can compete and do well in Japanese Koi shows.

As of February 2014 the following is a list of all the major awards won by PSKoi customers. There are many first, second and third place awards that are not listed.

I'll add my experience, or more importantly, lack of experience.

I don't claim to know how to pick koi; I've tried and often fail. I equate it to knowing what branches to
cut and trim to create a great bonsai. I can't do that either... so when I'm picking a koi to buy I often
rely on the dealer. I've have a couple of sanke from Russ that I asked for his help picking and I can
say with all honesty that they are the best ones I own. I've never had the time or drive to show them
but now being retired, and as they continue (I think) to improve, I might give it a try some day.

Nothing is guaranteed, but a dealer with that knowledge and eye when picking koi if you're not sure,
is invaluable. Congratulations Russ for the years of accomplishments.

In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave,
and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him,
for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.

Thank you Steve, it is nice to hear when they turn out. I forgot to mention that someone, who was at the AJKS, relayed to me that the three Major prizes won by PSKoi customers was the highest number of major prizes won by a US dealer at the show. These are not 1st, 2nd or 3rd place prizes but are the top awards.
