      Gluing bottom drains

I’ve now tried four times to glue a piece of PVC into the koi toilet coupler. This is the worst made product I’ve ever encountered. Pipe is bevels, tons of transition glue, this thing won’t go in more than a half an inch.

      What gives?

You’ll need to get some JB welding compound. It’ll weld that stuff right up

      https://www.jbweld.com/products/plasticweld-epoxy-putty
After it is applied it can withhold up to 350psi.

Nguyen, I would never try to repair a bottom drain that will be buried in concrete under a pond. You want to never see that drain again, and never worry about its condition.

I’m not going to repair it. It’s not worth the risk. I will not buy another koi toilet, they are crap, the other one is installed but took a Herculean effort to plumb to the coupler and I have no idea if it’s going to work.

They’re just terrible products, machined improperly.

I used a couple Koi Toilet II years ago and can say I didn't have any problems with them back then.
Obviously not even close to the same product as the KT I but just wanted add that feedback.

I'm sure in general they're fine. I was very frustrated. I don't understand why they're so unusable. I mean, I've glued 100s of PVC joints up to 6" and I've never experienced anything like this.

The great Birdman (Steve J.)is going to see if I can just buy a replacement basin. That’s the fastest path and likely the least expensive.

I am for the Koi Acres or Rhino bottom drains. The others are just far too thin fur comfort.

Ok well, looks like I may be switching ... grmph. But - better now than later I suppose. On the one that didn’t crack, I was only able to get about an inch or inch and a quarter of PVC into the coupler, would you trust that if the drain is burried in concrete?

That is a tough one but, no, it should be seated fully for optimum strength.

Agreed. You want as much of the pipe to contact the BD joint for a good weld. This is a critical part of your build. Don't mess it up by hoping it will be fine. Get two new bottom drains and do it right.
